Kent Narrows Map Mural

The members of Crossroads Community, Inc. are spearheading

our exciting new community arts project as we work towards the creation of a huge 6’ x 32’ mural featuring the Kent Narrows Shantytowns.
This map represents the waterfront along
the Narrows circa 1930.
The purpose of this painting is to figure out where all the roads,

shucking houses, shanties, stores, music halls and the rest

of the extensive community existed from about 1930 until 1990.

The next step is a painting of the area on a series of portable panels

measuring a total of 32’ in length and 6’ in height that will be installed

under the 301/50 bridge in late 2024.
It’s a  BIG project!

For this part of the project we used a scaling process to expand the image from a NOAA chart to a 4’ x 8’ panel. We worked on this map across the QAC community as we recreated an important part of our local maritime heritage.

Many thanks to the Queen Anne's County Centre for the Arts for their generous support for The Kent Narrows Shantytown  Mural Project!!!
